R you ready for a trip to Tacoma?
Just 35 miles away from Downtown Seattle sits the third largest city in Washington State. Tacoma which is known for it’s artsy vibes, is also home to the triple-A team of the Seattle Mariners.

Cheney Stadium is also home to Reign FC (National Women’s Soccer League) and the Tacoma Defiance (Sounders’ reserve team).
Best place to take a selfie- The Rainiers (presumably) got their name from the majestic mountain Mt. Rainier, which is visible from the third base side of the field. Get this same view by visiting the FiRe Place. This open space acts as both a group area and/ or a family friendly zone.
Food at the stadium- Options within the stadium range from the basic hot dogs and burgers to local specialties clam chowder and tacos. Because the stadium is near both wine country and hop valley, there is a variety of local beers, wines and spiked seltzer.
The R Bar, which neighbors the FiRe Place is 21+. Here, those drinking responsibly can enjoy hard alcohol, in addition to beer and wine.
The mascot– Rhubarb the reindeer, the Rainier’s mascot, is a close relative to the Mariner Moose. You’ll see him roaming the stands and dancing on the dugout.

Getting to the field- There is a large parking lot attached to the field. Parking during games does cost, so make sure to have cash.
You should know- The Rainiers “R” may be part of their logo, but it is also stamped on the popular beer- Rainier (go figure). When driving from Seattle to Tacoma on Interstate 5, you will pass The Old Rainier Brewery. The key word here is old, because the beer is now brewed in California. None the less, the neon R still sits on top of the old building and lights up every night. The R can also be found throughout Cheney Stadium and in advertisements and slogans. In fact, in 2019 the team participated in MiLB’s Copa de la Diversión. Their take on the “fun cup” was La Familia de Tacoma for their play on slogan’s like “We R Tacoma” and more literally “We R Family.”
